Classical Ballet Theatre is in the business of CHANGING LIVES through DANCE.
—Cynthia Donavin, Founder of the Classical Ballet Theatre
As Northern Virginia’s preeminent, not-for-profit training organization and performance company, Classical Ballet Theatre has inspired thousands of students and patrons for over 25 years. CBT emphasizes pre-professional achievement, and it boasts of esteemed faculty members who are dedicated to helping each student reach his/her full potential. CBT also prides itself in providing enlightening growth opportunities for its students, while, at the same time, enhancing the cultural climate of the region. Dancers perform a vast repertoire of classical and neoclassical ballet as well as contemporary pieces in full-length and Children’s Series productions. They also serve and enrich the community through free performing arts programs for local schools, organizations, and underserved populations, as well as through tribute performances that raise public awareness for worthy causes.
Known as the “go to” organization for hands-on, intensive training, Classical Ballet Theatre focuses on helping each of its students reach his/her full potential. CBT provides high caliber instruction for all ages and abilities, and it offers master classes, YAGP coaching, summer intensives, choreography camps, and exceptional performance opportunities. While students ages three to six refine their motor skills through structured yet imaginative movement, older children focus on beginning ballet technique as well as posture, flexibility, and strength. As they become more mentally acute and technically adept, with the artistic director’s approval, they study more advanced ballet and modern dance technique, develop their artistry, as well as learn classical ballet repertory, as well as contemporary dance choreography. Upon graduation from CBT, students are professional level artists who are fully prepared for auditions with prestigious dance companies and universities. They also are poised, confident, and focused young adults who have a strong work ethic and excellent time management skills, keys to success in any life pursuit.
… an incredible source of inspiration, drive, knowledge, and support for more than half of my life…nurtured and instilled in us the personal qualities that would make us better dancers and better people as well.
